Severe Weather Details for Forsyth and Northern Davidson Counties
This afternoon, the National Weather Service issued a Special Weather Statement for Forsyth and northern Davidson counties. At 2:59 PM, Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm near Enon (about 5 miles northwest of Clemmons), moving southeast at 10 mph. The primary hazard? Wind gusts up to 50 mph.
- Hazard: Wind gusts may reach 50 mph
- Source: Radar indicated
- Impact: Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured outdoor objects. Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is also occurring—lightning can strike up to 10 miles from the storm.
If you're outdoors, seek safe shelter indoors or in a vehicle. Lightning and strong winds are dangerous and unpredictable.
Concerns for Local Homes, Transportation, and Infrastructure
With winds this strong, many parts of our community—homes, vehicles, and public spaces—are at risk. Here’s what you should watch for:
- Fallen tree limbs or branches, which can cause power outages and traffic hazards
- Blown debris that may damage vehicles and windows
- Potential disruption to local outdoor events and recreational plans
- Roofing damage, such as lifted shingles, dented gutters, or even minor structural compromise
Tonight’s Outdoor Events and Activities
If you planned to take part in any outdoor activities, it’s smart to double-check event status or consider rescheduling. While no major public events were found in Forsyth or Davidson counties during the alert window, June is a great month for:
- Walking, hiking, or biking local greenways and trails (but only after the storm passes and it's safe)
- Enjoying Concord’s beautiful parks, like Frank Liske Park or Dorton Park, on calmer days
